WagerWire Report: Smash or Fade? CFB Edition Week 2

I ended the first week of college football 1-0 in my upset predictions. If you know me, you know I like to make one underdog prediction a week, so this week is no different. While I failed to write an article last week stating my prophecy, you're just going to have to take my word for it that I DID in fact predict Syracuse to upset Louisville in week one. Opening weekend did not disappoint in the slightest. High flying, live action football games at almost every slate this past weekend. While week two has a tough act to follow, this is still college football and anything can happen. There's no Ohio State vs. Notre Dame or Pitt vs. WVU backyard brawl game to look forward to this week, but there's several games here that could potentially send college football fans into a frenzy. I want to look at one match up in particular.

Mississippi State (1-0) @ Arizona (1-0)

11PM EST Saturday September 10th on FS1

As of today, Arizona looks to be 10.5 point dogs, but it's a winnable game at home with tons of momentum on their side despite what the sports books tell you. Both teams went 1-0 against the spread last week, covering massively, but this week Mississippi State will be tasked with jumping a few time zones to the west and squaring off against a very energetic Wildcats football team. In the last 7 games played for the Arizona Wildcats, they total 5-2 against the spread, and while It's hard to argue with the talent that Mississippi State rosters, you start to get this feeling that Arizona is building a strong culture and that there's a sense of urgency to ride this wave as long as they can. D.J. Williams and Jonah Coleman combined for a sturdy 128 yards on the ground last week as a tandem and one touchdown. This is a backfield that interests me, especially against a Mississippi State bulldogs defense who gave up 129 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground to a Memphis team one week prior.

This is going to be a shootout. The point totals for Mississippi State have hit the over 5 of their last 7 games played, while 4 of the last 6 games have hit the over for Arizona. The 62.5 point over/under should be a gimme. This Mississippi State defense has been garnering a lot of hype but honestly didn't impress me much in week one. Every year there's a team who takes on the role of heat seaker. I feel as if Arizona is poised to be that team this season; the team who is slept on weekly and who's only real purpose is to expose teams that were thought of as a well structured team. Not to say that Mississippi State isn't a good team at all, I believe they are, but I'm speaking to the talent and construction of Arizona. This is a well coached football team and while there aren't loads of NFL players littered all over Arizona's roster, this is a team who could absolutely make some noise despite the sports books constantly labeling them an underdog. I love the underdog story. Hell, even when Jedd Fisch was hired at Arizona he was put through the media ringer. Everybody counted him out, but it's looked like a good decision since then. This is a team that continues to fight to prove people wrong, so for that, Out of Pocket Sports is taking a leap of faith in the Arizona Wildcats for week 2. My prediction is Arizona not only covers the spread, but wins outright and I'm slamming the over. Arizona ML +300 and -105 for the over. Will I keep the undefeated streak alive and head to 2-0? We will catch up to talk about it next week.
